Consumerism, like Capitalism is based out of the interest of one pole of the society. To benefit that one section of the society that has already been benefitted by the many faces of consumerism. And to add to this, Consumerism has rapidly made its way into peoples home and now their pockets. Consumerism is infact burning holes in your pocket, without you knowing it.
What is Consumerism? Who created this model? Who Benefits from it?

Well! According to Wikipedia, “Consumerism is a social and economic order/ model that encourages the acquisition of goods and services in ever-increasing amounts”
Yes, You read it right. In ever increasing amounts. Which means you are being shown the same product in different colors, with different minor variation at a regular intervals. This also means, that You are buying products which you might not even need.

How many Products do you own in your wardrobe that are either redundant or are never used?
How many times do you go for shopping?
Shopping festivals and Mega Sales are a part of this whole Consumerism, so are you. Furthermore, All these, social media trending delights are a part of this consumerism and capitalism model too. I am not against it, but when you see how this model is slowly killing the essence of simplicity, you might want to incorporate minimalist lifestyle.
And no Consumerism is not just burning a hole in your pocket. It is also doing something dreadful for the society as a whole.Want to know what?
An ever- Increasing demand for goods has put an extensive pressure on natural resources such as water and raw materials. This results in the excessive use of energy thus degrades the environment.

National Geographic states ,”About 1.7 billion people belong to the global “consumer class.” that was in the year 2004
Another unep.org report says, ” new technological solutions and gradual change in consumption patterns are needed at all levels to stop the climate change”
Consumerism in simpler terms means constant purchasing of new goods, with little attention to their true need, durability, product origin, or the environmental consequences of their manufacture and disposal.
This means that natural resources are being used to create products at a rapid speed and also the waste – unused-extra finished products are then dumped into the Sea. You must Adapt conscious consumerism.
Why is the reuse of goods and waste utilization not a part of the production-consumption cycle?

Why is the “throw-away” culture not thrown away?
Fast Fashion and constant new version of mobiles being launched in a interval of weeks are yet another example of how we are being ruled by the hands of consumerists
Consumerism must be either slow-down or halted inorder to not just save the planet but also to save your pockets
How can you as a consumer minimalize the growth of consumerism?
- Accepting Minimalist living, The minimalist lifestyle is about living with only the things you need. Minimalists are free from the desire to buy and accumulate more
- Buy and encourage use of Eco friendly products
- Say No to Fast Fashion

These steps will not only save the planet but also help you from that burn in your pocket
